Fed: Refugee advocates condemn Curtin decision

The government's rejected suggestions the continued influx of asylum seekers could
pave the way for the Baxter Detention Centre in South Australia to be re-opened.

The mayor of Port Augusta .. JOY BALUCH .. is among those who believe tjhe centre could
be re-opened .. telling the ABC if the federal government can re-open the Curtin detention
centre in Western Australia .. they'd be stupid enough to re-open Baxter.

The Greens have expressed a similar view .. but a spokeswoman for Immigration Minister
CHRIS EVANS says there are no plans to re-open Baxter.

Human rights groups have condemned the government's decision to re-open Curtin .. saying
it'll have a negative impact on the health and wellbeing of asylum seekers.
