The Internet provider UOL (Universo Online), Star One and StarBand Latin America a company held by Gilat Satelite Networks, made a deal to provide the first two-way broadband Internet service for the Brazilian consumers. According to the deal StarBand will supply 3,700 VSAT (very small aperture terminal) for the satellite communications besides support operations. StarOne held by Embratel and operator of European satellites SES Astra, will be the network carrie and also in charge of the commercialization of Internet access in the residential and small sized companies market. IUOL will be the first big sized provider to offer this new access. The service will be launched by 2001" second half.
